The early days of the web were truly magical; everything seemed possible, but only just barely. The new medium of HTML was transparent enough that we could learn from each other's work and had a liveliness that made tweaking and adjusting endlessly fun.

We've since moved on to harder problems using staggering towers of abstraction to solve them. Each layer makes the system more capable but less knowable. Resilience and knowability are in direct conflict.

If we traded back high availability, could we achieve greater knowability? If we limited generality, could we foster quicker and easier sharing?

So I'm building Douglas, a self hosted orchestrator small enough to fit in your head. A new tree to hang baubles and experiments, making the web a little more weird again.
